This blog is a place where students and teachers can discuss ideas that lead to success in independent study high school programs.
Independent study (IS) is an alternative way to complete high school. It requires students be self-starters, hard-workers, and able to learn through independent research and study. Most students who complete high school through IS programs need more flexibility in their schedule than the typical 7:30-2:30 school day allows. They are those who work or parent, or who have emotional or medical needs that make attending school regularly impossible. An IS program can be part of a school district, a publicly funded charter school, or a private school.
I have worked for a public charter and a school district. I'll be offering my own ideas on what helps students and teachers be successful as well as soliciting ideas from my students, peers, and other professionals in the field.
